Why mental models, and not willpower
Willpower is a battery: full at nine in the morning, flat by the time the habit shows up. A mental model is a plan you do not have to be strong for: if this happens, I do that. Books like Atomic Habits and Mini Habits are full of them. We take two or three, aim them at one habit, and let the plan do the deciding. That is intellect over mind.
